One crew, start to finish.
Northbound started as two brothers and a borrowed truck. Today we have 63 full-time movers — and still no day labor.
We started by fixing the handoff.
In 2009, Dana Okafor watched a long-distance mover lose half her parents' dining set between two crews and three warehouses.
So Northbound was built on one rule: the people who load your home are the people who unload it. That means fewer transfers, a numbered inventory that travels with the crew, and a crew lead who already knows which boxes are fragile.
We've grown to 22 trucks and a 40,000 sq ft warehouse, but every mover is still a full-time Northbound employee, trained in-house for three weeks before their first job.
- 2009First move: a 1-bedroom in Sellwood, one borrowed truck.
- 2014Opened Alder Yard warehouse and started long-distance routes.
- 2020Added video walkthroughs and binding estimates for every move.
- 202614,200 moves completed, 63 full-time movers.
Three promises.
Same crew, door to door
Your crew lead on loading day is your crew lead on delivery day, on every local move and most long-distance routes.
The number doesn't move
Binding estimates mean the price you sign is what you pay, unless you add items to your inventory.
Full-time people
No day labor or subcontracted crews. Every mover is background-checked, trained and insured by us.
Who you'll talk to.
Every move has a named coordinator — usually one of these four.
